Favorite vs Underdog

First of all, there is another trophy to hand out. Matty easily wins this year's Shootout, riding his number one pick  of Kemba all the way to the Final (which will just be showing off at this point). The "Korean Gak" goes back-to-back in the Shootout, and has a chance to be the only person ever to win both Shootout and Sickness titles.

Its down to the title game, in more ways than one. If Butler pulls the upset, Phil will tie Matty atop the Dilemma board and we'll go to the points tiebreaker. If the other team wins, I will throw up, and Matty will win. (Note, those events are unrelated, congrats on your performance thus far Mr. Robert). Since Matty has his boy Kemba as MOP and Lars has the now-eliminated Knight, the overall Sickness title goes to Matty.

However, should Butler finish the job they couldn't against Duke and the teams score 139+ points, Phil can not only ease his Shootout pain with a Dilemma title, but steal the Sickness crown for his hetero lifemate Silent Lars.

Thanks again for playing everyone.

Another Trophy on the Couch

With the Rams' win, nobody can score any more points in the bracket except for your 2011 Champ, Lars. With 20 points locked in for the Sickness, Lars is guaranteed at least 2nd place. If Kentucky loses tonight, Lars moves into a 3-way tie for 3rd place in the Dilemma and he'll overtake Matty for the Sickness lead.

It seems as though its all over but the scoring in the Shootout, but the final 3 picks of the Dilemma will likely decide this year's Sickness champ. Good luck to Matty and Lars!

UPDATE: If Terrence Jones gets 5 points, Lars moves into 2nd in the Shootout, so the race for the 2011 Sickness title is effectively tied. Everything depends on what happens in the Dilemma. Do we make the Dilemma tiebreaker also the Sickness tiebreaker? Or maybe we have everyone predict the Final 4 MOP?

Lars Owns the NIT

After giving Phil a chance to get a win last year, Lars reclaimed his title of NIT Champ as soon as the final four was set. All of the top 3 finishers (with Gak and myself) had Colorado and Wazzu as semifinalists, and Lars did enough good work in the earlier rounds to reign supreme.

With those points locked in, Matty's lead atop the Sickness board is trimmed to a still-robust 12 points over new second-place holder Gak. Lars' NIT points bump him up to 3rd, and I'm just behind those three. Digger was stripped of all but 1 of his 10 NIT points he had, leaving me to wonder if he'll tell me where I can shove the Sickness next year. Phil and Sib are also playing.

First Weekend in the Books

Congrats to Matty who ended the weekend in commanding poisition. He's holding down first place in the Shootout by 20 points, with Kemba providing him some scoring punch for next weekend. He's also leading the Dilemma, and has 2nd place honors in the Bracket and NIT.

Digger, for all of his Shootout woes, is second on the Sickness board. When Big Dig is watching the NIT this week he needs to work his voodoo magic for Miami, Fairfield and Northwestern. If that trio manages to win he will lord over all others in the NIT and lock in those 10 Sickness points.

Based on max possible score, the full bracket is still wide open, unless you're a Mullins (max 111 and 112 points). Currently Gak looks strong with the top point total (39) and the highest max (159).

The Dilemma is also up for grabs; with 15 games remaining only 5 points separates first and last place. Although Sib and Lars have some work to do to catch Matty, people have caught fire in the late rounds before.

Leaderboard

Since there is starting to be some separation, I added a leaderboard for the Sickness competition. I have a soccer playoff game tonight, so I probably wont update stuff again until after the UConn game.

Don't forget about the Message Board if you want to complain about Zeller scoring 30, or tell Digger to keep his chin up since Knight followed his career low with his career high.

UPDATE: Last NIT game for the 2nd round tips at 11. I will post the full leaderboard some time after that. UNM v Bama is a huge game, it might determine the order of finish by itself.

It Begins

Putting stuff together...

The tabs along the top are the quickest way to see whats going on.

  • Shootout currently has last year's stats. I will reset that eventually
  • Dilemma has the entry form. I'll change it to the leaderboard later.
  • NCAA and NIT tabs just have links. I still need to figure out if I can embed those better

I think I will keep this pretty bare bones, so its easy to navigate and find out the standings, etc.
